"I think of these photos as a melding of the influences of Dr. Seuss and Edward Weston, with a nod to Jacques Cousteau. When I was little(er) I really fixed on the fantasy that we were living on a dust speck in a giant world.  That idea is exciting and terrifying.  Exciting because it means that there is so much more to learn than we can even conceive of, and terrifying because we could be squashed at any moment.  I try to be like Horton, the Seussian elephant who recognized a civilization inside a dust speck, and pay attention to the small worlds around me. I draw on my background as a theater director and lighting designer, to create scenes in front of the camera using tiny figurines. I hope they encourage people to look a little closer, and see things a little differently."               -- Audrey Heller
